Retreat prepares faculty for coming school year

August 20, 2005

Olivet University held a faculty retreat on August 17-18, 2005 at San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, CA.

For two days Olivet University faculty and key school administrators held conference about the upcoming year at San Damino Retreat Center far from any and all distractions. The gathering was the first of its kind for Olivet, and there are plans to repeat it annually. "This is my first time retreating with such talented and well-known theologians and all around good Christian people," said Walker Tzeng, Chief of Operations at Olivet University. "We hope that this won't be the last time to open the year with this event, since it's been such a blessing to everyone."

Dr. William Wagner, Dean of Olivet Theological College and Seminary (OTCS) organized and presided over the meeting, which was also attended by faculty members Dr. Merrill Smoak Jr., Dean of the College of Music, and professors Dr. Thomas Cowley, Dr. Ray Tallman and Dr. David James Randolph.

Making this year's schedule of activities was not an easily accomplished task, since several participants were called away to attend Wednesday service at their local churches. Still, those who could stay the full course of the trip enjoyed a thorough retreat experience, which included opening and closing worship, an evening prayer meeting, and lively conversation about Olivet's plans for the upcoming school year.

"There was plenty to do and much more to learn," said Tracy McNeal, Director of Academic Affairs of Olivet University. "We are pleased with the turnout for this time of conferencing and believe it will make for a fruitful semester."

Among the days' topics for discussion were matters relating to accreditation, curriculum planning, and future expansions – including the sites of a new student union and dormitory that are being negotiated.
