Experience Worship

October 07, 2005

It is the fourth week of class for Jubilee College of Music students in both the San Francisco Main campus and the Seoul, S. Korea education center. The courses have defined many aspects of worship, including the history of church music, Old Testament and New Testament biblical context, and theories of the true heart of worship. Next week, students will experience worship at a professional level, by attending several concerts of top worship leaders in the country.

"Worship can always be a topic of discussion, but in the end, you have to worship with your life and actions," says Hiroko, a student of JCM in San Francisco.

Students have the opportunity to attend concerts from Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, and several other worship leaders and CCM artists. After each concert, students are required to write a paper in regards to their experience of worship.

In the previous semester, all students participated in worship ensembles and led the class through different styles of worship services. This was a way to implement the discussions and theories of worship into a practical setting. With the goal to develop worship leaders and musicians, this practice enabled students to deeply realize a new perspective in worship leading.

Jubilee College of Music aims to combine the theory of music together with the field of worship music. By attending concerts, leading worship in class, and participating in music events, all JCM students are able to 'experience' worship. "We anticipate that our students will grow quickly to become leading worship leaders for the future. Our teaching format of uniting the theory and practice is optimal, and we hope to make this a tradition for all our educational institutions," comments Christopher Chou, administrative director of Jubilee Mission International.
