Olivet University President David J. Jang Visits USCWM, William Carey University

October 19, 2005

Dr. David J. Jang, president of Olivet University, paid a visit to U.S. Center for World Mission (USCWM) and William Carey International University in Pasadena, Calif. on October 17, 2005. Upon his arrival, Dr. J. Jang was welcomed warmly by Dr. Ralph Winter, the founder of both institutions, and his associates. On this day, many visions and thoughts were exchanged between Dr. Winter, Honorary Chairman of Olivet University, and Dr. J. Jang, bringing the two institutions closer under Lord’s grace.

Over the years, USCWM has developed an extensive foundational missiology curriculum, comprised of 100-volume texts, which can be studied for full undergraduate degree; minor undergraduate degree; and master's degree or Ph. D. The curriculum consists of numerous modules where each module represents a significant period in Christian history; formative years of Christian doctrine; mission era and missiological advancement periods beginning from Biblical periods. It is an extensive study curriculum which requires more study and reading from each student than a typical seminary/Christian university education.

In addition, each course is accompanied by a comprehensive study guide, enabling the students to self-study at an appropriate pace. Moreover, a mentor-student relationship goes beyond the traditional professor-class relationship and allows for a modular, portable study for each student around the world. Thus, applying distance education becomes very feasible and effective.

USCWM has agreed for Olivet to use its entire curriculum, study guide, and text books to educate the students and enrich the university academic catalog. USCWM is a world-renown representative research center for global missions, which has served Christianity through its missiological works and developments worldwide.
