This month Christians around the world are coming together to commemorate the death and celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The reality that Jesus Christ was crucified and died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day is the Gospel. Indeed, it is this core and historical truth of the Gospel that unites us all as followers of Jesus Christ.
Leading up to Easter Sunday, many of us at Olivet have been meditating on John 13:1 – John 19:30 as part of a wonderful 40-day Lenten tradition. By studying these passages in the Book of John, we hope to more profoundly understand the love of God that He revealed through the death of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. As Apostle Paul explains in the Book of Romans, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
And we rejoice, for at Easter, God’s love triumphed in the eternal life of the resurrected Jesus Christ!
As we mark this period, it is my prayer that we all could better understand the Gospel, at the heart of which is God’s perfect love revealed in the crucified and risen Jesus Christ. By faith, may the gift of a relationship of love with our Lord Jesus Christ and a life that follows in his footsteps to eternal life be ours. And may the Gospel always be our firm foundation – the driving force of our lives and all that we do at Olivet University.
Blessings in Christ Jesus for a Happy Easter!
