William Carey Library Completes Expansion Project

November 15, 2006

The William Carey Library—under renovation for almost four months for a major expansion—announced the completion of building efforts on November 13, 2006.   The expansion project, which is the most comprehensive in the Library's history, began in August with the relocation of Olivet's Research & Development unit to make space for new library additions. It equips the library as a center for scholarly research with double the exhibition space for its English and East Asian language collections.

"The expansion marks a very important milestone in the history of the Library," Tracy McNeal, Director of Academic Affairs commented. "We will now be able to display more of our collections than ever before and serve the University community in new and better ways."

"I am delighted by the official opening of the newly expanded William Carey Library," said Hangil Jung of the University Library staff. "The library stands as one of Olivet University's crown jewels. We are excited to show the dynamic addition to our main campus to our faculty, student and staff communities."

In addition to expanded exhibition space, the project includes a dramatic new entrance in the main campus building; much-needed storage space for collections; a new reference desk; and a number of visitor amenities–including a seating area that serves as a gathering place and Reading Room, and more workstations outfitted with new technology to meet the needs of researchers.
