Dr. Don Tinder, a leading scholar on the history of church and faith communities, is teaching graduate students at Olivet University this semester in "History of Evangelicalism," which examines the rapid growth and global spread of the Evangelical movement in the last two centuries.
In addition to Evangelicalism’s historical development, Dr. Tinder’s course will introduce theological and practical controversies of Evangelicalism, as well as its interactions with the wider cultural context of a secularizing world.
Dr. Tinder brings to his second consecutive year teaching at Olivet University expertise in a range of subjects, especially Christian history and systematic theology. One of the world’s foremost church historians, he serves on the faculty Evangelical Theological Faculty, Leuven, Belgium, where he is a Professor of Historical Theology and coordinator of the Ph.D. program. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Tyndale Theological Seminary, Amsterdam.
He has published widely on Christian history; many of his writings have appeared in Christianity Today, where he served as Associate Editor before moving to Europe.
In addition to earning B.A., M.Phil, Ph.D. degrees from Yale University, Dr. Tinder holds an M.Div. degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has taught as a visiting lecturer at many other theological faculties in Europe and North America.
