Spring Convocation Starts New Semester

February 03, 2008

San Francisco, Calif.—On the evening of Friday, February 1, 2008 members of administration, faculty and governing board, together with hundreds of students convened at Olivet University for Spring Convocation 2008.  The ceremony was held in Olivet University Chapel at the University's main campus in downtown San Francisco, California.

The Spring Convocation was the most diversely attended event in the school's history, with students present representing almost every region of the world. The ceremony also was broadcast live to international viewers.

The exercises commenced with a procession of academic leaders into the Chapel, followed by a succession of warmhearted addresses by University President Dr. David James Randolph and faculty representatives welcoming the Olivet community to a new semester.  Musical selections and choral devotions from the Jubilee College of Music interspersed the evening's events.

The Convocation Address was delivered by Dr. Jeff Iorg, President of Golden Gate Theological Baptist Seminary.  Dr. Iorg's speech exhorted the entire university community to work hard in preparation to deliver the Gospel of Jesus Christ, according to model of mission portrayed in Apostle Paul's letter to the Colossians.

The 1½ hour ceremony included a special student awards presentation highlighting university students who had demonstrated distinguished academic achievement and service in the past semester.

Immediately following the convocation guests enjoyed a special reception at the executive offices of Olivet University to celebrate the occasion.
