OCJ Students Capture History in Beijing

October 03, 2008
Olivet College of Journalism students put their learning into practice as they captured several historical and exciting moments in Beijing last month.

As the world flocked to East for the 2008 Olympic Games, OCJ students were on the scene in their native country of China. Their goal was to set out and capture the moment in vivid photographs and descriptive articles.

"The Games were a great way for me to practice what I've learned," said Yamei Zhang, OCJ Student. "The event was so large, and there were so many things happening, it was a challenge to find the story that I wanted to tell."

Zhang, as well as other juniors and seniors from the Journalism program, reported for several days on the cultural differences between the visitors and natives, changes in the city and local commerce. These projects will appear in individual student portfolios that students present during their senior year.
