OU Students Reflect on Christian Service after Local Retreat

December 11, 2008

On Saturday November 29, 2008, Olivet University students joined the "Life in Christ Retreat" at First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley. The retreat was a major local event open to the public intended to engage new believers in the local area to understand the life of Jesus Christ and the Church.

The retreat was co-sponsored by Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS) along with a number of local church and para-church ministries.  OTCS students participated in preparing and marketing the retreat to new believers as part of the University's Christian Service program.  Students also helped as small group leaders, activities coordinators, and staff throughout the event. The retreat also attracted students from other colleges such as the Jubilee College of Music (JCM), who helped lead the praise.

OTCS Professors Dr. Ray Tallman, Dr. Tom Cowley, Dr. Mark Wagner were among the distinguished speakers invited to give messages.  Since the theme of the retreat was the "Life of Christ", the speakers exhorted believers to live as the Lord taught and to lead other to live a life in Christ.

Students who participated in the retreat expressed gratitude for being able to contribute to the local mission.  Students remarked that the practical experience will help them later on in ministry. Other participants also reflected that the retreat allowed a revival in passion for mission and evangelism leading up to the Christmas season.
