Olivet Renews Ministry Formation Program

September 15, 2009
In true Christian tradition, ministry formation is part of the fabric of Olivet University. It is viewed as an integral part of a student’s education, reflected in the framework of the institution.

The University has demonstrated its commitment to the comprehensive ministry formation of all students at Olivet with the launch of its 2009 Ministry Practice Program, with new features as of fall semester. A revised handbook, clearer evaluation procedures, and more diverse ministry internship opportunities for students are initiatives aimed at developing a culture and programs at Olivet that promote development of effective witnesses and servants in the Church and the world at large.

The Ministry Practice and Christian Service programs are coordinated through the Office of Academic Affairs, with faculty leadership from Olivet Theological College & Seminary Professor Dr. Tom Cowley, who also directs the Doctor of Ministry Program.  This week, Dr. Cowley begins a lecture series for the program based on his latest book Remember the Heart of the Bible: Love God, Love Neighbor, which gives students a framework for understanding and applying the whole Bible in the practice of ministry.

More information on the 2009 Ministry Practice Program is in the Ministry Practice Handbook, available online for enrolled students in MyOlivet intranet pages.
