OCAD to Launch Open Design Seminars

January 28, 2010

As part of the University’s Olivet YOU program, Olivet College of Art & Design is launching two course seminars aimed at making the College’s educational resources in design more widely available.

The OCAD seminars are titled Graphic Design Basics for Everyone, and How to Design Websites for Your Targeted Audience-Web Technology. The seminars are in the form of 1-unit modules embedded in larger 3-unit OCAD courses. Each module consists of 5 weeks of lectures, along with exercises critiqued by design industry professionals.

The seminars, which are open to all students, put special focus on teaching skills to meet the professional design-related demands of ministry.  The target audience of these modules is career ministers who wish to benefit from further education without committing time to an entire program of study.

The graphic design module will introduce practical design techniques and skills that can be immediately applied to a project, including use of Photoshop and basic digital imagery for web.   The web technology module provides an intermediate look at the latest technologies used for websites.  Lessons focus on user interface and navigation that will enhance usability for any website.   The process of testing, prototyping, and creation techniques also will be covered.

Registration is open now. For more information, please visit ocad.olivetuniveristy.edu.
