Students Attend GGBTS Missions Conference

February 21, 2010

Students of Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS) made a strong presence at this year's Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (GGBTS) Missions Conference.  The 49th Missions conference, themed “Cultural Clash: When Worldviews Collide”, began on Friday Feb. 12 and continued until Sunday Feb. 14.

Friday's events began with a series of six one hour lectures put together by Dr. Ray Tallman. The topics of lecturers ranged from cultural issues from Bible context.  One of the lectures included a current missionary from Middle East who shared about contextualization problems in his mission region and possible ways to solve conflicts.

The conference's featured speaker was Dr. Ergun Caner, the President and Dean of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary & Graduate School, who took a passage from Mark 2 as he illustrated the theology on worship in different cultural context. Dr. Caner also gave an extensive overview on the twelve major world religions from global apologetics perspective and spoke from his experience of becoming a Christian from the Middle Eastern background.

In the conference's final event, students joined the Urban Excursion outreach program to downtown San Francisco for a practical application of outreaching and witnessing. The experience equipped students with practical skills in the cross-cultural mission application.
