Olivet Congratulates Graduating Class at 2011 Commencement

June 19, 2011

The Olivet University 2011 Commencement was held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the main campus in San Francisco, CA.  The event was also streamed live via webcast for online students and guests from around the globe.

Fellow classmates, friends, and family members gathered in congratulating students across the Olivet University 7 colleges in the graduating class of 2011.  Dr. Merrill Smoak started the ceremony with musical devotions from the Jubilee College of Music.  Dr. William Wagner, University President, introduced the 2011 commencement speaker Dr. Lewis R. Shelton.

Dr. Shelton encouraged and challenged students to finish the race no matter how difficult the journey might be.  God is by our side and He is at the end waiting to applause those who cross the finish line.  We should finish the race and reach the goal that God setup for each of us.

Dr. Shelton is an alumnus of Bethany Bible College (now Bethany University), from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music. He also holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Shelton was conferred a D.D. from Northwest University. He is currently completing a Doctor of Ministry degree with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership.  His career has focused primarily on ministry within the fellowship of the Assemblies of God, the organization with which he holds ministerial credentials.  Most recently, he completed 22 years as Senior Pastor of First Assembly of God in Albany, Oregon.

Student speaker Edmond Chua was selected to represent his graduating classmates.  He shared his gratitude towards Olivet University faculty and staff in preparing students both spiritually and professionally to serve the Kingdom of God.  Chua graduated with an M.Div from the Olivet Theological College & Seminary.

Graduates, faculty, and guests joined a joyful reception filled with photos and celebration after the commencement ceremony.
