Olivet Students to Participate in Short Term Summer Mission

June 15, 2012

The spring academic quarter is coming to a close, and a long summer break is around the corner.

The majority of Olivet students will spend the next three months visiting family, traveling, interning or taking summer courses, but a handful of seminary students have volunteered to go on short-term mission to other states.

The mission teams will head to different cities across the United States.

In each city, the students will work with local churches or mission organizations to reach out to residents and share their faith. Some of these churches have been started by Olivet alumni.

Each city, with a team of at least half a dozen missionaries, will train for one week in street evangelism and Bible studies before going out to the field.

Lessons learned from ministry courses such as Evangelism and Discipleship and Homiletics can be practiced and directly applied.

Sharon Zhang, a Master of Divinity freshman who has volunteered to go on this mission, is excited about her trip to Phoenix at the end of June.

"Back home, I had a brief experience evangelizing at a local campus, but I think this opportunity will open my eyes to see the different approaches to mission."
