Graduates Encouraged to Speak with Boldness for Jesus Christ

November 05, 2012

Olivet University held its 2012 Commencement in San Francisco, CA in celebration of its graduating class across the University's 17 programs.  Faculty, staff, students, family, and friends filled the school’s chapel for an evening of inspirational speeches and festive music in congratulating students on their accomplishments.

The Jubilee College of Music started things off with a musical devotion led by Dr. Merrill Smoak, the music college’s dean.    Olivet's Vice President, Dr. Joseph Ray Tallman, welcomed everyone with the opening remarks while Olivet Theological College & Seminary Dean, Dr. Don Tinder, introduced the ceremony's main speaker President Dr. William Wagner.

Dr. Wagner delivered an inspirational speech that gave encouragement to the graduating class as they embark into the world of missions. The speech centered on the verse from Acts 4:29, "Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness."

The Olivet University President explained that those who serve the Lord whole-heartedly would face challenges.  But amidst turmoil they are reminded to seek God and continue glorifying Him.  Pray that one can continue to speak God's word with boldness during times of trial.

The ceremony continued with the granting of degrees and a speech from student speaker Ndaba Mazabane in representing his graduating class.  He expressed how a new heart for missions emerged during his studies with Olivet faculty and mentors.  Mazabane graduated from the Olivet Theological Collage & Seminary with a Master of Divinity after years of serving in the missions field.  He serves as the Vice Chairman of the World Evangelical Alliance, former President of the Association of Evangelical in Africa, former Director for Focus on the Family, former staff at Campus Crusade for Christ, and currently pastors the Rosebank Union Church in South Africa.

All guests, faculty, and graduates ended the evening with photos and a special reception after the ceremony.
