Capitalizing on the proximity of diverse industry leaders, Olivet College of Art & Design, OCAD, students were able to see the application of their craft through a guided tour of nearby design powerhouse as they close out the Winter Quarter this week.
Olivet University Design students toured Studio Hinrichs, which is one of the top five influential Bay Area design studios.
Maurice Wood, who serves on the faculty of OCAD, is a former employee of Studio Hinrichs and led the tour. Wood explained about studio's structure and creative work environment, introducing designers at the firm to the touring students. Students, in turn, had a chance to briefly shadow staff in their regular routines.
Studio Hinrichs engages in all types of design projects, including corporate communications, brand identity, promotion, publishing (books and magazines), packaging, interactive and environmental systems.
"Hinrichs Studio tour is a great example of how Olivet University connects students with real-life workplace experiences," said OCAD program director, Diana Yoo. "The lesson here for students is to gain a clear vision for their futures in the world of design," she said.
More interaction with SF-based design firms are being scheduled for the upcoming spring quarter.
