Olivet University design students will look to showcase their final projects this year, with the common theme of addressing social issues via design. By combining research, interface, typography, and design elements, students will give professional presentations for not only their final product, but the creative process that went along with it.
The focus of the project centers around supporting missions, entrepreneurship, or other engaging topics in contemporary society. One student shared her preliminary ideas, which involves delivering gospel messages and biblical ideals through indirect approaches. Past projects include students integrating pictograms and lexicons in developing a universal graphical language for Bible messages. This would allow the Bible to be communicable in different countries and languages. Another project concept was to develop a website that presents Bible study lessons in new ways, with the hope of drawing people to the message through interactive graphical representation.
Students will be taking courses that combine research with graphic design in preparation for the final project. Data will play a big role in supporting the students’ concepts, as well as problem-solving so that the final product can be production-ready. The projects will showcase thoughts, solutions, and entrepreneurial ventures that can come from considering social issues.
