Over 30 alumni, students, and academic staff of Olivet University’s Theological College and Seminary filled the Hong Kong Theological Camp at HKFYG Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp from January 31 to February 3, to give and attend lectures on the history of Christianity in China.
The theological camp, organized by the Olivet University Alumni committee, titled "Christianity in China: Past, Present and Future," covered topics ranging from the initial arrival of Nestorians in China to Catholics and Protestants entering China in different phases, and the future developments in modern China.
The camp kicked off with an address from Olivet University professor and Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies Dean, Dr. Donald Tinder, who gave a survey lecture on history of Christianity from the Nestorian (635 A.D.) to present times. Professor Tinder also highlighted several key moments in history, emphasizing that God has planted the seeds of the Gospel in China at an early age and made them grow in a long term through different ways.
The event concluded with Dr. Donald Tinder’s lecture on 2 Corinthians 2:7-8 focusing on Paul's attitude toward suffering. The attendants convened after the service to share the grace they received. Many said the sermon allowed them to deeply understand Paul to possess the right attitude toward better serving the church.
