With online media’s rapidly changing and evolving field, practitioners are constantly learning the latest and greatest tools for video editing formats. Apps, software, and online tools are making video editing less cumbersome and more effective than it used to. Olivet School of Media and Communication, OSMC, looks beyond just teaching skills but also implementing the important element of storytelling into media communication.
An example includes OSMC’s JO660 Audio and Video Production course, which train students on technics and storytelling principles. Journalism students then practice fundamentals of digital video shooting then visually present footage through Adobe Premiere Pro and edit video files for online uploading.
Projects and workshops supplement the program by giving students hands on experience ranging in multimedia storytelling, in-person interviewing, video shooting, and computer editing. Through sharpened visual storytelling skills, students have more success to engage their audience and present information in a more interesting and compelling way.
