On Monday February 16, the U.S. celebrates Presidents Day where we honor the current and past presidents who have served our nation. It is also a perfect day to pray for our authorities.
Christians live in two kingdoms, one belonging to the earth and one that is the kingdom of God. Apostle Peter reminded us in 1 Peter 2:9 that true believers are a holy nation, a people for God's own possession. Christians should live a life to proclaim the excellency of the true King Jesus Christ. But it doesn't mean Christians should ignore the earthly world and its authorities.
In 1 Timothy 2:1–2, through his apostle Paul, God tells us:
“First of all, then, I urge that supplication, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
This coming Presidents Day, let us pray for our authorities and ask that the Lord could open their hearts to the truth of the Gospel message, and receive Christ as their Savior. May the Lord give the president wise counsel and grant his administration the grace to serve in truth and righteousness.
