Seminary Students Meditate on the Life of Jesus Christ During Lent

February 26, 2016

From Ash Wednesday, seminary students at Olivet University’s Riverside campus have been meditating on the life of Jesus Christ.

Students from Olivet Theological College & Seminary are utilizing a Bible study guide that was written by Dr. Christy Tran, the Academic Dean at Olivet University.

The guide focuses on John 13-19, providing cultural and historical context as well as commentary from such biblical scholars and theologians as F. F. Bruce, Raymond E. Brown, and Leon Morris.

Reflecting on a specific passage, one OTCS student commented, “Many people misunderstand the verse recorded in John 13:27: ‘After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, ‘What you do, do quickly’ (NASB).

“From the Bible study guide, I learned that Judas is actually the most noble guest of Jesus at the last supper. The bread that Jesus gave to Judas was the last loving exhortation to him. Because he did not receive the love of Christ and rejected it, Satan was able to enter his heart. It is not because Jesus gave him a piece of bread that Judas had experienced the work of Satan.”

The cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the essence of a Christian’s life. OTCS students are studying to understand the deep meaning of Christianity to prepare themselves for future ministry.
