The Olivet School of Media and Communication (OSMC) will introduce a couple of new programs for non-journalism students who desire to brush up their digital media skills.
A new Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Journalism joint-degree program will be offered to graduate students by Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS) and OSMC. The 4-year curriculum consists of 96 units of divinity core courses, 40 units of media and journalism core courses, and 12 units of required internship.
The program's goal is to equip students with professional media skills and strong theological background in order to communicate the message of God effectively in their respected medium. It will offer diverse career paths for graduates to serve within the church or mission field as media evangelists, or in Christian media organizations as journalism professionals.
For Bachelor of Arts students, OSMC will introduce two new minor options, namely journalism minor and strategic communication minor. The journalism minor curriculum will equip students with basic skills in article writing and editing, photography, multimedia storytelling and social media. The strategic communication minor will equip students in public relations and marketing.
Many churches, faith-based organizations, and advocacy groups have realized the need to have professional public relations or media personnel to communicate their causes effectively with the rest of the world. OSMC's strategic communication minor curriculum will prepare students for this particular work.
Olivet students interested in these new programs may apply directly to OSMC in the 2018 Fall Quarter. For inquiries, please email osmc@olivetuniversity.edu.
