Students Showcase Work in the Annual Fall Art Exhibition

November 07, 2018

Inspiring fine arts created by the Olivet School of Art and Design (OSAD) students and faculty were on display at the 2018 Annual Fall Art Exhibition at the Olivet University (OU) San Francisco campus in Mill Valley, CA.

The exhibition themed on Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" expressed God's Word through Christian artworks, media, and designs.

OSAD partnered with other Christian art organizations to showcase a variety of works created by students and fellow Christian artists. Unique works in the field of graphic design, product design, photography, and fine arts gave students an opportunity to visualize the gospel across multiple mediums.

OSAD Associate Dean, professor Zimou Tan, had been working on a large-scale painting for the past 3 months. The 48 inch by 72 inch painting titled "The Valley of Dry Bones" depicted the prophecy from the book Ezekiel chapter 37. The painting conveyed a strong message of dry bones coming back to life after hearing the word of God.

"The size and complexity of the artwork usually takes about 9 months to complete. Amazingly, the painting just took me a little more than 3 months," said professor Tan. "I'm glad it received a lot of appreciation from the audience."

Tan's painting seized many eyes during the exhibition and became the centerpiece at the event. The delegates were overwhelmed by the fine arts displayed in the annual gathering. Feedback from participants will help the group enhance future exhibitions and include a greater number of selected works.
