Olivet University St. Louis celebrated its Winter Convocation at the St. Ann Campus, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and friends in a spirit of unity and shared purpose. Notable guests, including the President of Brookes Bible College, the Mayor of St. Ann, a representative of Olivet Assembly, the general secretary of Jubilee World, and members of the St. Ann Police Department, joined the evening to show support.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Dr. Matthias Gebhardt, the event’s Master of Ceremony and OU Global Coordinator. The Jubilee College of Music led the congregation to praise the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness. This was followed by introductions of Olivet University’s executive leaders, faculty, and staff. Dr. Jasmine Park, Dean of the Olivet School of Language Education, led the invocation prayer, preparing attendees to receive an outpouring of grace and fellowship.
University President, Dr. Jonathan Park, the evening’s keynote speaker, delivered an address emphasizing the values of faith, service, and academic excellence. A series of congratulatory remarks followed, showcasing the support and collaboration of community and ministry leaders.
Dr. Robert Thurman, President of Brookes Bible College, who previously occupied the St. Ann building, shared his blessings for Olivet University as it began a new academic term in the same location. Dr. Thurman shared his testimony that it was the answer to their prayers that Olivet is continuing the legacy of Christian education at the campus.
Mayor Amy Poelker extended a warm welcome to the students and faculty, inviting them to become a part of the St. Ann community. She also referenced the Bible verse displayed on Olivet’s banner, Psalm 66:16, and testified about God’s work in her life, encouraging students to trust in God’s plan for their journeys.
Dr. Nathanael Tran, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Olivet University, traveled from California to attend the event. He shared lighthearted comments about the “snow” and “angels” he encountered on his trip and reminded the students to cherish their Christian heritage while embracing the new opportunities that lay ahead.
Pastor Mark Spisak from Olivet Assembly congratulated the University on the new academic term. Referencing OU’s spirit of connecting theory to practice, Pastor Spisak introduced collaboration opportunities between the church and the school.
Pastor Dorothy Li of Jubilee World, a performing arts ministry based in St. Louis and Nashville, also addressed the gathering. Drawing from Jubilee’s motto verse, Psalm 150— “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”— Pastor Li expressed her desire for all to praise God and share the testimonies of His works.
Michael Xongnoseuksa, an undergraduate student majoring in theology and business, shared his personal experience at Olivet. Originally from Laos, Michael spoke about the challenges of language barriers, as he initially spoke little English and no one in his class spoke Laotian. Despite these challenges, he felt welcomed at Olivet. As he continued his studies in both theology and business after completing ESL courses, he eagerly anticipated the plans God had for his future.
The evening concluded with a closing song, followed by a Benediction delivered by Dr. Nathanael Tran.
The Winter Convocation was not only a celebration of the new academic term but also an opportunity to foster deeper connections between Olivet University, its local community, and its global ministries. The event reflected a shared commitment to faith-based education and transformative service. Students and special guests left with hearts full of inspiration, sharing heartfelt testimonies of the grace and encouragement they experienced throughout the evening.
